The morning sun comes, and though I had a few moments where my eyes closed, the Dread Beasts did not return and we were fortunate. I look from our path with the morning sun and see another stretch of woods. We will journey that way and begin to make our way north. If we can keep our path true, it will take us less than another day to get to the area near the waters of the Great Bay of the North and the old dwarven passages.
As we move through the trees, I think of our journey thus far and the many turns of it. I had seen more than I had expected, and in some ways, I feel like Slatnichor is growing to understand better what it is we face. All things have happened for a reason thus far. Though we have taken an indirect path to our goals, I know we will make it.
I see something ahead. I kneel down, and Slatnichor does the same. I am surprised they have not seen us yet.
âElves,â I whisper to him.
Ahead of us, I can see a small group of elves, very small. I can only believe that this has something to do with our troubles thus far. Elves this far west is about as rare as dwarves this far west. I have gotten Slatnichor this far by myself, but some fate has put us meeting these elves. They do not see us yet.
âI had always heard not to trust elves,â Slatnichor says.
âThat is how it was before now, but as I told you back when we left Harrodarr, much has changed. We will see why these elves are so far from Narisond. You will see that all is as fate decrees it.â
I have gotten Slatnichor to Taria. I feel a stirring in my chest that these elves are important to us. My master said to be watchful. Now we will see.
